Design Safari

Corinne traveled to South Africa in August on a “Design Safari” of sorts. She was invited to travel with a group of designers through Sourcing Africa, an organization which does indeed take the participants on an actual safari but with a definite design perspective.

Ardmore is a fabulous South African company that works with native artists that create fantastical ceramic pieces as well as scarves, napkins, and accessories. Here they are presenting at the Safari Lodge and a photo of Corinne wearing the beautiful wool scarf from the presentation.

The tables were set for lunch and dinner with the Ardmore wares.  It was a very stylish safari, indeed.

One of the Ardmore artists joined us on Safari and shared a demonstration of her skill in creating a piece of ceramic art for the group.

The Mthembu Safari lodge was beautiful and part of the mFulaWozi wilderness. This was definitely a once in a lifetime experience and opportunity. While the food was always plentiful and delicious, and the company was perfection, the actual safari part was beyond special.

The elephants were Corinne’s favorite animal to see. Their personalities were on display, especially when cavorting down at the river.

There was a special cocktail hour on one of the safari legs where the guides set up a bar and served drinks and appetizers.

The most memorable part of South Africa for Corinne? The light. There was a golden hue that always suffused the atmosphere and the sunsets seemed to last for eons.
